MAUI OCEAN CENTER
These are pictures from the Maui Ocean Center in Maalaea Harbour, on the shouthwest
shore of Maui. This innovative
aquarium opened in March 1998 with many beautuiful exhibits, including a huge tank
with hundreds of fish native to Hawaii. Reef sharks and 1 tiger shark also live in this
well designed "pool". The Reef building has smaller tanks displaying various other
marine species, including jellyfish, octopus, shrimp, and moray eels in addition to the usual
reef fishes, large and small. Tidal pools and sea turtles can be viewed from above or
through the glass.
They are very friendly and will come right up to you, (but don't touch).
The hours of operation are 9-5, 7 days a week. There are 2 restaurants and a
nice gift shop.
Kama'ainas get a really good discount. So be sure to
go by and check it out. You won't be disappointed. The phone number is 875-1962. They also
have a website at: www.coralworld.com/moc
Have you seen the north shore town of PAIA?
